An Evening of Song and Community Spirit
The village hall was abuzz with excitement as we welcomed Thornton-Le-Dale Community Choir and Evelyn, Lilian and Debs Plowright, for a heartwarming evening of music, laughter, and delicious treats. The event was a true testament to the vibrant community spirit that makes our village such a special place.
The evening began with rows of chairs filling up quickly as neighbours and friends gathered for the festivities.

As the conversations hushed, the choir took centre stage. Their harmonious voices filled the hall, captivating everyone with a repertoire that included something for all, such as Singing in the Rain, Scarborough Fair, Sound of Silence and songs from the muscial Oliver, amongst others. The choir’s energy was contagious, and their passion for singing resonated with the audience, who couldn’t help but tap their feet, sing or hum along.
Next, Evelyn and Lillian brought their charm to the stage, offering a beautiful performance that perfectly complemented the choir's set. Their renditions included songs from Little Women and Les Miserables. To end, they invited their mum, Debs, to join them in singing an old American Folk Song, Shenandoah - all of which had the audience glowing with village pride.
.
Following on, the choir returned to finish off the singing for the night with songs such as Let's Face the Music and Dance, Ain't Misbehaving, Yesterday, I Have a Dream, and Somewhere Over the Rainbow to name a few. Such uplifiting performances!
Before everyone headed home, guests were treated to slices of homemade cake, prepared by members of the community. The mulled apple juice (from our apple juicing event) went down a treat! A raffle added an extra layer of excitement, with prizes generously donated by local residents and businesses, including Ebberston Studios, The Old Weigh and Dalby Forest. Our thanks go to you all.
A heartfelt thank you from AWE to everyone who helped make this event possible, from the performers and organisers to those who contributed cakes and raffle prizes, and to everyone who came along to enjoy the evening!
