Marvels of the Moth World at Forest Gate

We recently had the wonderful opportunity to explore the fascinating world of moths at the Forest Gate, led by the incredibly knowledgeable Allan Roddha from the Butterfly Conservation.

As the air still held the quiet calm of early morning, we gathered to examine scores of magnificent moths that had been drawn in overnight. From the delicate to the dramatic, the variety on display was astonishing!

Allan guided us through this miniature world with infectious enthusiasm and expert insight. He patiently helped us identify different species and shared fascinating facts about their habits and the vital roles they play in our ecosystems. For many of us, it was a chance to see many of these moths up close for the very first time - and to appreciate just how remarkable these often-overlooked creatures truly are.

From shimmering wings to clever camouflage, each moth had a story to tell. It was a quiet, awe-inspiring morning that reminded us of the richness of the natural world right on our doorstep.

After the moth marvels, some of us stayed on to enjoy a fabulous breakfast - warmly hosted by our wonderful trustees, Mary and Laura. With fresh food, hot drinks, and great company, it was the perfect way to round off a fabulous morning.

A huge thank you to Allan Roddha and Butterfly Conservation for making this event possible, and to Mary and Laura for their kind hospitality. And of course, thank you to everyone who came along to share in this special experience. We left with a newfound appreciation for the mysterious moths of the forest.
